How long must an employer withhold wages to satisfy a court order?

It is the responsibility of the employer to keep a court ordered garnishment in place until a new court order is received releasing the employee.

Example: When a child reaches 18 years of age or when a debt has been repaid, the employee may come to the employer and say, essentially, "I'm done" with that obligation. The employer must wait until a court order is received to discontinue enforcing the garnishment.
