What is meant by the term "information reporting" in regards to payroll taxes?
Information reporting is occasionally used to describe those tax returns required by the IRS that are not subject to tax but are nevertheless required under the internal revenue code. Examples of information reporting include Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, and Form 1099-Misc.
